"GoJu," meaning "hard" and
"gentle," is a non-violent holistic martial art that teaches understanding
of mind, body, and true self.
The "hard" aspect is the training
itself through the use of various fighting techniques, which are ONLY used
to strengthen the muscular system and enhance the circulatory and respiratory
system.
The "gentle" aspect of Japanese GoJu
Ryu, with the use of exercises from the ancient art of Chi Kung (internal
exercises), meditation, and Hara (centered breathing), helps the organs
stay healthy and perform properly.
Mainly as a form of personal development,
Japanese GoJo Ryu can be applied to any violent confrontation. However,
one does not have to fight to achieve these goals. Through the pre-arranged,
dance-like forms (called Katas) with an imaginary opponent and mat work,
the techniques are very effective for self-defense.(
